JotForm is a web based form builder founded by Aytekin Tank in 2005. It offers a WYSIWYG drag and drop builder interface with lots of features up its sleeves. This JotForm review may not be able to cover everything but I’ll make sure you get to know some of the outstanding features that this tool offers. If you haven’t seen it, let me give you a few things to get you excited about using this powerful tool.
Price
JotForm has 3 tier membership options. You can choose from Basic (FREE), Premium membership for $9.95/month, and Professional membership for $49.95/month. Depending on your needs, you can use the basic membership to test out the service to help you decide whether to upgrade or not. Compared to many free services on the web, JotForm’s free membership doesn’t add any form of advertisement or branding.
Interface
JotForms web builder provides a combination of WYSIWYG and drag and drop interface. There are 5 drag and drop classifications, the Form tools, Quick Tools, Survey tools, Payment Tools and Power Tools.
Form Style
Forms can be styled individually as well as on a field by field basis. The options above can be used for basic customization but for a more in-depth and highly custom fit form, CSS injections may be needed.
Setup & Embed
To ensure you get notified, you can setup email alerts and configuring the fields. Below is an example of an email alert for the form I created.
JotForm Integrations
JotForm can extend its functionality by integrating to other programs. Currently, JotForm integrates with popular services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Spreadsheets, Mailchimp, Aweber, Facebook, Freshbooks, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, Highrise, Constant Contact, Solve 360 CRM and Campaign Monitor. Once you select to integrate to one of the programs, an integration wizard will walk you through the process to complete the procedure.
Aside from the integrations mentioned, Jotform has a place called JotForm Labs where you can try out some experimental setups that’s not commonly seen in a regular form builder.
Payment Integrations
There are instances where you don’t really need a full shopping cart but just an option to receive payments. With JotForm, there are various payment gateways that you can integrate on your form and do exactly that. I have tried integrating Paypal Pro for a client as well as Paypal basic. Paypal Pro integration have not been very smooth, but Paypal basic can be integrated with ease.
Customization
The WYSIWYG interface offers sufficient options to create your basic form requirements. However, if you would like to put some branding and really want to make it stand out, Jotform provides a lot of room for customization and personalization with the use of CSS. Button gallery provides a collection of submit button images that you can use to match your website’s color.
Templates Gallery
Whether it’s for survey use, website contact form, application form or any other kind of data gathering form, Jotform offers a lot flexibility to where and how you can use it. But if you are out of the creative juice to spice up your form, or you don’t have time to create from scratch, there is a template gallery where you can scout for suitable forms that will fit your requirements.
The JotForm template gallery is free to use. Once you create a form, you have the option to add it to the gallery or you can keep it private. I have checked on a couple of examples and one example that’s really outstanding that I’ve seen is the form created by UP.
Support
There’s plenty of great form builders out there. But the challenge is getting responsive and helpful support. I’ve tried asking questions from their support forum as well as sending tickets and the support team is no less than great! As stated in their about page, JotForm has a 15-person support team who are geographically dispersed to accommodate support request on any time of the day. I have received prompt replies. Yes, that’s replies. That’s because at times, you get a reply from one, then get another supporting reply or workaround. Let’s just say that the first answer was ok, but the good thing is if one of their member sees it and can insert another thing or two to resolve a problem from a different perspective.
There were instances when my account and my client’s account were either blocked or suspended but the experience with JotForm’s support is just amazing. They responded quickly and resolved issues perfectly.
Resources
JotForm offers a plethora of resources to make it easy to get started with the tool. There’s a JotForm user guide, a YouTube channel for video tutorials, and a database of user questions that you can use to reference when you encounter issues. They also have social media channels through Facebook and Twitter where you can reach them for feedback.
The Verdict
I don’t have any second thoughts to recommend this really great tool to anyone who’s looking for a form builder. For those who would like to integrate Paypal Pro, there may be a bit of a challenge but I’m sure that the support theme will be there to help you out. The price is very competitive and if it’s just simple form use, the free membership is the best option. Integrating to your CRM’s and email marketing software like Aweber or Mailchimp will also be another great reason to use this tool. While Dropbox and Google Drive integration will also be very useful to anyone looking at file submissions using your forms.
